A Little Grey Poupon

Recently Grey Poupon launched a new interactive Facebook site that, in my opinion, is a definite game changer.  Not only does the site include a never before seen application, but it is also creating quite a buzz in the digital world.

About the site:

In order for fans to become a part of the Grey Poupon Society, they must first take a test.  Grey Poupon looks through each users Facebook account and judges whether or not the person is classy enough to become a member.  If the user does in fact pass the test, they are ranked into a certain percentile (the higher the number the better).  Nonetheless, if the user does not pass the classiness test, they are ranked into a low percentile and refused member access.  Users can always try again to gain membership, however they may still be denied.

I personally think this new launch is brilliant.  Not only has Grey Poupon developed a new application, but it has also increased their brand awareness.  Both members and non-members are sharing their personal Grey Poupon stories with their friends and families.  People are curious to see if they are classy enough to become a member and are continuing to take the test until Grey Poupon says they pass.

I have talked about this new launch and increased brand awareness in two of my classes and each time it was mentioned, students powered up their laptops to take the test.  Some were granted access while others were denied membership, yet they continued to retake the test in order to prove Grey Poupon wrong.

This new launch is a great example as to why Facebook is a good platform for all brands to have.  Not only is it an easy way to increase brand awareness, but Facebook also lets fans and consumers interact with the products they love.  It will be very interesting to see how other brands react to the new Grey Poupon Facebook launch.

  1. I totally agree with you that Grey Poupon’s interactive Facebook application was brilliant. They have set the bar high for other brands to compete with. Additionally, since consumers have an application like this, they will want all brands to come up with similar interactive media for Facebook and other social media platforms. Even if the public doesn’t like the brand or thinks that the application is dumb, I think that they will still talk about their opinions to their friends and family. This will, like you said, help to create more brand awareness through the mere mention of the Grey Poupon Society of Facebook because the public will become intrigued about what it is. I’m also excited to see how other brands will react to what Grey Poupon has done.

  2. I agree that Grey Poupon’s new Facebook application was a great idea. They are increasing their brand awareness by becoming social media friendly. It is cool that the site is interactive because it makes it easier to use. Facebook is a great platform for all brands to have.
